Austin Independent School District launches “Futures Initiative” program

Austin, Texas – The Austin Independent School District will launch the “Futures Initiative” program across all schools, beginning in August 2024, by integrating technology and innovative teaching methods into a new curriculum.

The “Futures Initiative” will provide students of all grades access to innovation labs, coding classes, tech company partnerships, digital literacy workshops, robotics clubs and an enhanced STEM curriculum. 

Maria Hernandez, Superintendent of Austin Independent School District, said, “By showcasing technology and innovation, the ‘Futures Initiative’ will set students up for success as they learn how to creatively navigate the digital world.”

A feature of the “Futures Initiative” includes bringing tech company partnerships into the classrooms. Students will be able to learn from leading technology companies by working with mentors, completing internships and participating in real-world project experiences.

Other aspects of the ‘Futures Initiative’, like digital literacy workshops and enhanced STEM curriculum, will allow students to foster a level of technological proficiency which will enable them to excel in their future internships, like those provided by the tech company partnerships. In that way, every part of the ‘Futures Initiative’ unites to transform the learning experience by preparing students for higher education and their careers.
